Events and Workshops at DeLaney Community Farm
All workshops listed below are held at DeLaney Community Farm, 170 S Chambers Road in Aurora (click here for directions) unless otherwise noted. There is a suggested donation for each workshop. RSVPs are required for classes and class registrations are now open.
- Beekeeping: Starting a Hive, Installing Bees, Spring Swarm Management, Inspecting the Hive
Saturday, April 26th, 9:00 - 11:00am
Take a tour of the apiary and the three hive types that are maintained at DeLaney, demonstrate how to install a swarm or package, and discuss what to look for when inspecting hives in the spring. This workshop will be led by DeLaney’s beekeepers, Allan & Debbie Brown and will take place rain or shine! $15 suggested donation per person, limited to 30 people. RSVP required. RSVP here.

Shareholder harvest begins! Vegetable pick-up will occur every Monday from 4:00 - 7:00pm at DeLaney.
- Beekeeping: Hive Health and Inspecting the Hives
Saturday, June 14th, 9:00 - 11:00am
Learn what a healthy hive looks like, how to keep it that way naturally, and what to do when problems arise. This workshop will be led by DeLaney's beekeepers, Allan & Debbie Brown. $15 suggested donation per person, limited to 30 people. RSVP required. RSVP here.
- DeLaney’s CSA Camp for Kids
Monday, June 16th – Friday, June 20th, 9:00am – 3:00pm
New in 2014! Kids aged eight to twelve years old are welcoem to participate in DeLaney's new Farm Camp! This unique experience will engage and educate. Kids will learn about DeLaney's mission-based CSA, seasonal vegetables, participate in hands-on farm activities and will learn about the importance of community to our farm's success. - Kid's Beekeeping: Bee Education
Saturday, June 21st, 10:00 - 11:30am
An interactive kid's bee education class led by a nine year old! Kids aged five to eight years old are welcome to attend! This is a kids-only event! Parents are welcome to 'buzz off' after sign-in and are asked to return to the hive promptly for pick-up at 11:30am. This class will be supervised by one DUG staff member and two parent supervisors. Led by nine year old resident bee expert, Saffron Bennett Spurlock. Limited to 15 kids with a suggested donation of $15 per child. RSVP required. RSVP here.
- WIC Orientation
Tuesday, June 24th, 10:00am - 12:00pm
All WIC clients are encouraged to attend this event! Learn about DeLaney & Tri-County Health Department's partnership including the work exchange program at DeLaney, WIC Nutrition and Taste-Testing Clincis and meet other families. Various dishes will be offered to sample and a tour will be provided. Bring the entire family! Free.
- Preservation for Beginners
Saturday, June 28th, 10:00am - 12:00pm
This class will demonstrate basic water bath canning techniques and provide you with the skills and resources to can fruit and acidic vegetables like tomatoes and pickles. Plan on leaving with recipes, a book list, and the confidence to prepare and can foods that will have you dreaming of summer in the middle of January. This workshop will be led by DeLaney shareholder Heidi Farr. $20 suggested donation per person, limited to 30 people. RSVP required. RSVP here.

- Beekeeping: Bees & Beekeeping Questions & Discussion Session at DeLaney Community Farm

You've got questions, we've got helpful suggestions! If possible, email questions and topics in advance. This workshop will be led by DeLaney's beekeepers, Allan & Debbie Brown. $15 suggested donation per person, limited to 30 people. In the event of rain, the class will be held Saturday, July 26th. - Community Cooking Demonstrations & Lunch
Tuesdays, July 22nd – September 30th, 11:30am – 1:00pm
YDeLaney staff provides cooking demonstrations followed by a community lunch at DeLaney Community Farm. Various dishes are prepared, primarily using seasonal, fresh vegetables and minimal ingredients from DeLaney. Attendees are given the recipes, highlighting the nutritional information of the vegetables used. The goals include: increasing awareness of seasonal vegetables and the nutritional value of vegetables, as well as offering our community a time to enjoy a meal together each week. - Basic Herbal Making
Saturday, August 9th, 9:00 - 11:00am
Learn the basics of the herbs on the farm and how to take them as a tea, tincture or vinegar. This workshop will be led by co-owner and formulator of R.L. Linden & Co. and herbalist Lynn Flanigan-Till. $15 suggested donation per person, limited to 30 people. RSVP required. RSVP here.
- Beekeeping: Hive Harvest Activities at DeLaney Community Farm

Need ideas on what to do with all that beeswax, in addition to candles? Also, learn how to get your hives ready for the winter. This workshop will be led by DeLaney's beekeepers, Allan & Debbie Brown. $15 suggested donation per person, limited to 30 people. - 3rd Annual Brunch in the Field
Sunday, September 21st, 10:00am - 12:00pm
Please join us for the 3rd Annual Sunday Brunch in the Field. a farm-to-table fundraising event featuring food from DeLaney and our partners around Colorado. Snooze, an AM Eatery, will be preparing a delicious breakfast along with fresh fruit and beverages. Brunch will be held on the ground, so bring your picnic blanket, chairs and whatever else you might need. Please help us to keep waste to a minimum- bring your own plates and silverware! Suggested donation is $20 per adult and $10 per child under the age of twelve years of age. Brunch is limited to 100 people. RSVP here.
