EarthDance 80205: Harvest Drums for Food

From EarthDance

EarthDance 80205: Harvest Drums for Food dances for food on September 18, 2010. EarthDance 80205 will celebrate the fall harvest from gardens and farms in Northeast Denver with African Drums and Dance.

The community will gather together to share the harvest from local Northeast Denver youth farming organizations like GreenLeaf, Growhaus, Feed Denver, and Denver Urban Gardens & Harrington Elementary.  Residents of the 80205 live in one of Denver’s largest food deserts, in recognition of the challenges traveling several miles to grocery stores, EarthDance 80205: Harvest Drums for Food encourages residents to bring excess produce from their gardens to share with the community.

EarthDance 80205: Harvest Drums for Food honors youth and community members engaged in providing local produce to residents of the 80205 food desert, and share their bounty with the community.

African Drums and Dance sound the call to the community to dance and share the harvest blessings at EarthDance 80205. Love Uprising Drum and Dance opens the celebration with a blessing of drums and dance.  EarthDance Harvest Youth Dancers will showcase their steps learned in a 3 day Dance and Drum Camp.

The highlight of the annual multi-location Earthdance Festival (200 locations in 50 countries) is a simultaneous link up, when every event across the world plays the “Prayer for Peace” at the exact same moment (3PM MST) – morning in the Australian rainforest, afternoon in Colorado, midnight in London, and sunrise over the Himalayas – the Prayer for Peace is a profound and powerful moment that unifies our intentions for World Peace on all levels.

After the Prayer Heritage African Dance and Drum performs a harvest dance and song celebrating this year’s bountiful harvest. EarthDance 80205 peaks with a community drum circle with all residents encouraged to bring a drum or dance a step in the autumn evening.
