  East 13th Avenue Community Garden
image006.jpg
The East 13th Avenue Garden provides valuable communal outdoor space for a diverse neighborhood including a large Somali Bantu refugee population.

 Why We Love Our Garden:
This fairly new garden offers important teaching and learning opportunities. Although language barriers can make communication challenging, the garden is a place where the native and refugee populations are learning to work together. Through this combined effort, the garden members have created an area of growth and life that everyone enjoys. The strong family ties of the African refugees are apparent, and children and parents work the plots together, both generations taking pride in what they have created.

The East 13th Avenue Garden progresses daily, and members look forward to the upcoming installation of personalized benches painted by the youth program.
