This garden has a novel premise: to acknowledge the ancestors of Colorado High School students by planting trees and other hardy perennials in their honor.

 Why We Love Our Garden:

 Community Events:
co high school boys
Each tree and bush within the Honor Garden was planted in memory of a participant’s relative.  This year, Colorado High School plans to hang clay plaques to acknowledge the honored.  In addition to honoring those who came before them, the Honor Garden is a place for high school students to connect with natural processes, learn valuable skills, and enjoy the growing of vegetables and flowers.

The Honor Garden at Valdez Elementary is strategically located in a growing residential neighborhood.  Convenient to several community schools, the garden invites participation on numerous levels.  In the past, the local elementary school has been actively involved: students have raised a pumpkin patch, green bean teepees and sunflower playhouses.  This year, there are plans to connect high school students with the elementary students to participate iin a literacy project in the garden.

Although the Honor Garden has primarily been youth-centered, the leaders would like to open plots up to interested community members.  If you are interested in joining this community of learning and “honoring” please let us know!
