permanent community gardens in Denver, one of the first places gardeners could really commit to their plots because they knew they would be there year after year.  Lots of love and time have gone into this garden because people know that it is safe from redevelopment and provides much needed open space in the Highlands neighborhood.

Pecos Garden can feed hundreds of people, and has always been a back yard to immigrants from all over the world who find themselves in the Highlands neighborhood.  They love having a chance to get out of their apartments and into nature.  They also love growing vegetables from their home countries that can’t be bought in Colorado markets. Young gardeners often dig in and watch food grow for the first time at Pecos Garden.  They love bright colors, so eggplant is a favorite.
