                          Steele Community Garden
Steele Community Garden was voted  “Best Way to Get to Know Kids in the Neighborhood” by Denver’s Westword Magazine in 1995, and it continues to be true.  At Steele Garden, young and old cultivate the garden together; creating an environment of learning, community and care.

 Why We Love Our Garden:

 Community Events:

Many of Steele’s gardeners are senior citizens who live in a near-by condominium complex.  Since this is a school garden, there are also many young students who use Steele to learn about horticulture, botany, ecology, and composting. Everyone is welcome and you don’t have to have a lot of experience to get started.  There is a committed core of gardeners, and everyone shares information. Long-term participants even publish packets of time-tested advice for newcomers.  This garden will likely be expanded as part of the final phase of the school’s Learning Landscape.

Imagine yourself among the rose bushes on a warm summer day.  Some passing neighbors stop by to compliment you on your work.  You might offer them some raspberries or cherry tomatoes.  Your fellow gardeners might be an elementary school participant or they could be 85.  Everyone is laughing, having a good time and helping each other out.  You can take home all the cut flowers you want, and your diet is better than ever because of all the tasty fresh vegetables.  Who knew vegetables could taste so good?  That’s life at the popular Steele garden.
