Whittier garden has a long history of neighborhood involvement and community celebrations.

 Why We Love Our Garden:

 Community Events:

Kids love to dig in the dirt, and that is especially true at Whittier.  Gardeners welcome neighborhood youth into the plots for informal learning and samplings of fresh produce. A popular garden, plots are often completely full.  Doctors, teachers, businessmen and many others have all taken an interest in Whittier over the years, sharing a common love for hard work and desire to grow their own produce.   In addition, Slow Food works with school youth in the garden.

This garden is self-sufficient and well organized, using the skills of all gardeners to keep the garden running.  Gardeners have planned garden art competitions, raised pumpkins of unusually large size, and fixed the garden’s rottotiller. Over the years, Whittier has grown into a real community. Gardeners love to talk to each other, and they also love to talk to the plants.   If you’re in the neighborhood, make sure to stop by and see what is growing at Whittier!
