School Garden and Nutrition Curriculum > Lessons > Spring Lessons
Our seasonal approach to teaching bridges gardening, nutrition and science using standards-aligned lessons for the elementary school classroom and garden. Each lesson includes the applicable Colorado Academic Standards in science and comprehensive health with suggested extensions and modifications. Most lessons are one hour and include a healthy, kid-tested recipe that is appropriate for the classroom, topic and season.
Search curriculum:
Knowledge of good nutrition and the connection to gardening will continue by teaching plant parts and the basic elements of plant growth. Students will understand the life cycle more strongly by starting to grow their own plants and begin preparing the garden for the growing season.
Each lesson plan is filled with discussion, hands-on experiential learning and journaling exercises. Although many of the lessons are one-hour long, they can easily be shortened to accommodate time for planting seeds in the classroom. The lessons have been organized to follow the seasons but many can be adapted to fit other times of the year.
