This garden is a true example of grassroots gardening.  Started by a group of Hmong people looking for a place to cultivate traditional foods, this garden has grown into a resource for the entire community.

 Why We Love Our Garden:
Westminster garden began when one recent immigrant decided to cultivate a vacant plot.  At first, water had to be hauled from the local irrigation ditch and small plots were cultivated in an otherwise vacant lot.  Soon others joined her, interested in the opportunity of growing their own produce on a piece of land that wasn’t otherwise used.  Last year, Denver Urban Gardens worked with Westminster officials to get the necessary permissions, bring water to the site, and remove large rocks that littered the soil.   The site is now open for permanent gardening use and is very popular with the surrounding community.

Anyone who is interested in gardening is welcome to get involved at Westminster.  You will meet helpful and generous gardeners, ready to share their knowledge and create new community connections.  If gardeners need to take a vacation, everyone chips in to keep the plots watered and well tended.
