Description
New Freedom Community Garden is a recently relocated garden in east Denver with more than 50 plots. Almost all plots are gardened by families from the refugee community that lives nearby, with gardeners coming from Bhutan, Myanmar (Burma), Nepal, Ethiopia, Congo, Senegal and elsewhere. There are also a few non-refugee gardeners who live in the neighborhood, all coming together to create an incredibly diverse environment. Gardening is more than a hobby at New Freedom, with gardeners tending their plots to supplement their food budgets. Additionally, New Freedom Community Garden finds its place in the local community by designating two plots for use by two neighborhood youth programs: Mercy Housing Apartments and Hidden Brook Apartments through the Spring Institute.
