LOGISTICS

What hours/days will the sale be held?

You will be able to visit our office to shop on Tuesdays & Thursdays 9am-5pm, and Wednesdays 11am-7pm as well as on the following weekend days 10am-2pm (Aug 29/Sept 19/Oct 10/Oct 24) for the date ranges below:

• Cover Crops: Aug 10th – Nov 6th (while supplies last)
• Garlic: Sept 21st – Nov 6th (while supplies last)

Can I pre-order?

Yes, you can pre-order on the day we start selling each item (dates above), and you can either order online for later pickup (or delivery), or visit our office and shop in person.

How much does it cost?

• Cover Crop Seed Mix: $2.50/oz
• Seed Garlic: $30/lb
• Straw: $18/bale
• Shipping: $10 flat fee (available for cover crop and garlic only)

What will be included in my order?

You’ll receive educational information on each cover crop mix, and garlic variety.

What should I know about shipping?

Shipping is a flat $10 fee on top of your order, including taxes. We can only ship cover crop and seed garlic, not straw.

How much comes in each order? 

• Cover Crop Seed Mixes – you will be able to scoop what you need, and the price will be determined by weight (per ounce)
• Seed Garlic – 1 seed bulb per order
• Straw – pre-bundled bales

Are there any discounts available? 

This is one of our annual fundraisers, which supports the work we do across metro Denver. As such, we have limited ability to reduce pricing. Garden Leaders may use their garden accounts for purchases, but no discounts will be available for this sale. We are also unable to offer free or discounted pricing for SNAP recipients.

What payment methods are accepted?

Cash and credit cards are accepted; checks are not.

PRODUCT EDUCATION

Where do your products come from?

The seed garlic is from a local Colorado grower, The Grasshopper Collective; the cover crop is from Arkansas Valley Seed; and the straw is from Wardle Feed & Pet Supply.

Why is fall one of the best times to improve my garden?

Once summer crops are finished, fall is the perfect time to replenish your soil. Planting garlic, adding mulch, and sowing cover crops now helps protect your garden through winter and sets you up for a stronger, more productive growing season next year.

Why should I plant garlic in the fall?

Fall-planted garlic develops roots before winter dormancy, resulting in larger bulbs the following summer. Colorado’s climate makes fall the ideal time to plant garlic for a successful harvest the following year.

What is a cover crop?

Colorado’s dry climate, intense sun, and windy winters can leave garden soil vulnerable to erosion and nutrient loss. Cover crops help protect bare soil, reduce weeds, build organic matter, and improve soil structure so your garden is healthier and more productive next season.

What’s the difference between hardneck and softneck garlic?

Hardneck garlic produces larger cloves and a flower stalk (scape), while softneck garlic typically has more cloves, stores longer, and is the type commonly braided.

What can I use straw for?

Straw is a great mulch for vegetable and flower gardens. It helps retain soil moisture, suppress weeds, regulate soil temperature, and keep fruits and vegetables clean by creating a barrier between the soil and your plants.

What’s the difference between straw and hay?

Straw is made from the dry stalks of grain crops after the grain has been harvested and contains very few seeds. Hay is grown as livestock feed and often contains grasses and seed heads, making it more likely to introduce weeds into your garden.

Can straw be used in raised beds and pathways?

Yes! Straw works well as mulch around plants, in raised beds, and on garden pathways to reduce mud and weeds.
