Garden Leader Training: Food Donation and Gleaning
REGISTER HERE
Community gardens and food forests can play an important role in increasing access to fresh, culturally-relevant food in our neighborhoods. In this session, we’ll explore different ways sites can ensure that produce doesn’t go to waste, including fence boxes, Fresh Food Connect, connecting with local hunger-relief organizations, and free farm stands. Participants will build a mini food donation bin to take back to their site and discuss practical strategies for gleaning at the end of the season, especially once water is turned off and crops are still producing.
This session is available for all DUG Garden Leaders, Steering Committee Members, and Tree Keepers. Prospective leaders can join by request. This session will be hosted at the Lowell Street Community Garden and Barnum Orchard.
