Introducing DUG’s Youth Service Fellowship to engage Denver’s youth in community-building.

We are thrilled to welcome the first cohort for DUG’s Youth Service Fellowship. This cohort-based program offers 10th-12th grade students the opportunity to engage and positively impact their metro Denver community.

For 5 months, our fellows engage in training sessions on topics like urban agriculture, food justice, climate action, and more. They also complete 87 hours of service with DUG, all of which supports their professional development and skills-building within the green/nonprofit industry.

We asked our fellows about what skills they hope to gain through the program. Here’s what they said:

Some skills that I hope to gain through this Fellowship is helping my community, to gain more knowledge about the nature around me and to see how food is important.

Priscilla

I would like to support my community and help people access affordable and healthy food, while also earning some money to save for college.

Jes

Because I am interested in gardening and the environment.

Jesse

I hope to strengthen my skills to learn at a higher quality of specific things

Jackson

I am interested in this Fellowship because I would like to learn more about what nature has to offer for us and to have a deeper connection with plants.

Naomi

I want to learn more about solutions to today’s problems, including climate change and urban sustainability, but also food shortages and sustainable farming. I think DUG is a wonderful organization doing things that will help us immensely and that should be modeled after by every city.
