Exploring urban gardens with DUG’s Denver community
This summer, DUG launched a Summer Garden Stroll series as a way to connect our broader community to the growing spaces we steward. Since our community gardens are cared for by DUG gardeners, but are enjoyed by everyone in the neighborhood, we wanted there to be a way for the community to learn more about them and step into them.
So we launched Summer Garden Strolls. These hour-long walking tours were led by DUG staff in collaboration with the garden’s Garden Leaders and/or gardeners to explore DUG’s model, organic gardening, and allow the community to walk into these spaces and ask questions.
The walking tours focused on specific neighborhoods and explored 3-5 community gardens in the area. Since all of DUG’s community gardens are different, the strolls were a great way to demonstrate the diversity in gardeners, plant varieties, art structures, and more. Each and every growing space is unique and tailored to fit the needs of the people who garden in them.
These were a success, and we’ll plan to re-launch in Spring 2026 to invite past and new participants alike into our spaces that are for everyone to enjoy.
