Spring in Denver doesn’t just arrive, it’s grown in community.
And each year, one of the clearest signs that the growing season is here is the return of the Spring Plant Sale, hosted by DUG. This year, we’re hosting our biggest one yet in partnership with Denver Parks and Recreation at the City Park Greenhouse.
Taking place May 8–9 at the City Park Greenhouse, this two-day event is more than a place to shop for plants; it’s a launchpad for the entire gardening season.
A One-Stop Shop for Growing Season
Whether you’re planting your very first seed or tending a long-established garden, the Spring Plant Sale is designed to meet you where you are.
You’ll find everything you need to get growing:
- Seedlings, herbs, and flowers
- Hanging baskets and perennials
- Bare-root fruit trees and shrubs
- Organic compost and straw mulch
- New sensory and therapeutic plant varieties
All plants are carefully selected and vetted to thrive in Colorado’s unique climate, making it easier for gardeners to succeed from the start.
Held just after the region’s last frost and just before Mother’s Day, the Spring Plant Sale arrives at exactly the right moment to kick off planting season.
Rooted in Access and Community
While the plant sale is a seasonal favorite, its impact goes far deeper. Events like this are part of DUG’s broader commitment to food access and community resilience, ensuring that more people across Denver have the access, skills, and resources to grow their own fresh and healthy food.
In past years, this has included:
- Providing low-cost and free gardening materials
- Offering free food-producing plants for SNAP recipients
- Creating opportunities for education and connection across communities
Because gardening isn’t just about plants. It’s about access, empowerment, and belonging.

At its core, the Spring Plant Sale is about more than what you take home. It’s about what we grow together.
Every plant purchased supports a larger ecosystem of community gardens, food forests, and programs that make fresh food and green space more accessible across Denver.
So whether you’re planting a single pot on a balcony or tending a full garden plot, you’re part of something bigger.
A city rooted in connection.
A community growing toward resilience.
We’ll see you there.
