Can you introduce yourself and tell us a little about your connection to DUG?
I’m Lacy, and I connected with DUG when I started my first home garden about 10 years ago. DUG provided great resources, seeds, and plants that started my gardening journey.
What inspired you to volunteer for School Garden Summer Care?
I wanted to help out hard-working educators in our community and experience the magic of a community garden.
Why is caring for school gardens over the summer important to you?
Teachers and students put so much time and effort into getting these gardens going in the spring, and I want their plants to thrive while they enjoy a well-deserved summer break.
What’s been your favorite memory or moment so far?
I love meeting all the people who are part of the community garden during the group work days. To be surrounded by people who love gardening as much as I do makes the work fun.
What have you learned through this experience?
I learned how fun it is to be part of a community garden. People grow amazing things here! I’m in awe of the knowledge and commitment to the community by all the DUG staff and gardeners.
What do you hope students discover when they return to the garden this fall?
Upon their return, I hope the students discover a garden full of life and opportunities to learn about plants, insects, and their environments.
What would you say to someone thinking about volunteering with DUG?
Please volunteer with DUG! It will fill your bucket, and the fruits of this labor can be incredibly delicious!
