Hailing from Michigan, Ryan discovered their love of gardening growing up when helping their Master Gardener great aunt grow flowers, food, and trees. After studying philosophy at Hope College, Ryan worked in a multitude of horticulture roles in Michigan and Washington state, finding ways to mix their love of problem solving and plant care. Their grandfather’s lessons of sustainability and love of community led them to invest time in permaculture and community resilience projects in Seattle and Ann Arbor.
Ryan loves to be in nature in any form, from weeding gardens to hiking mountains, being outside is their happy place. They can also be found reading in a hammock, riding trails, and working on an endless string of hobbies/projects.
Fun fact: Ryan participated and coached The Pull, a 3 hour tug of war across a river and the oldest college tradition in the United States.
