At DUG’s annual Gather ‘Round gala, we unveil our Mission Moment video, which spotlights the year’s impact with moving messages from the DUG team and community members.

This year, we had the opportunity to bring in three incredible leaders in DUG’s growing green spaces: Ana Chavez, Denise Wanzo, and Rebecca Peebles.

Ana Chavez is the founder of the Troy Chavez Memorial Community Garden. She spotlighted the role of the garden as a gathering space for the community and a way to encourage youth to see themselves beyond stereotypes. Her perspective on the impact of art and color on healing was captured in the richness of the garden.

Denise Wanzo founded the Five Loaves Community Garden in Montbello. Her connection to her faith led her to create this long-lasting growing space for the community as a way to connect neighbor to neighbor. Named after The Miracle of Loaves and Fishes, Five Loaves Community Garden prides itself on its generosity through produce donations, which it donates to local food banks.

Rebecca Peebles is a Garden Leader at 39th Avenue Community Garden. There, she elevates cultural inclusivity and the richness of Denver’s heritage and history through community classes and youth engagement. She spoke to the team about the connection she feels to her father when she grows in her garden plot.

We are so excited to share the final video at the 2025 Gather ‘Round on October 2nd, where we’ll highlight DUG’s legacy through these voices, celebrate the harvest, and connect in community.
